We climb into the back yard of a quarry. At first it's no big deal. We're behind what seems to be an abandoned mill house. Take a few pictures. I climb up a ladder to the roof to see what's up there. We're still pretty covered but more exposed than behind the building. Stairs to the left lead up to a dark room, another ladder to the right leads to an even more exposed roof. Take a few pictures on the middle roof. We want to head up the stairs, but I hesitate this is the most exposed we could be. We take them as quickly as we can without making too much sound, and slip into the room. Heart thumping through my chest. From in here I can here thumping from somewhere below us. I start to freak, thinking maybe someone is working down there. My friend notices and calmly says "It's just the wind". This doesn't comfort me. I walk around while he grabs as many pictures as he can. He has a DSLR camera. Mine is film, so I take one or two in this room. I realize how constricting my prime lens is; it's hardly capturing the whole picture I would like it too. I try to write down how I feel through this whole time but my heart is pumping adrenaline through my whole body and it's hard to keep my hand steady enough to write anything. Thirty minutes pass and we got what we came for. We speed down the stairs not worry about the noise this time. If anyone had seen us or heard us it would have happened already. Go to the more exposed roof just to see if there are any good spots. I feel trapped like a rat in a corner with no escape. I have to get back down as quickly as possible. Leave the way we came. Sigh of relief, I feel like I've been holding my breath so I compensate with a few deep ones. On are way back we pass an abandoned building surrounded by trees. We decide to take a look. Step through some over growth. I feel much more relaxed, more casual. This looks more like a old auto repare place. The front of a truck sits outside rusting away slowly. Tires litter the yard along with sheet metal once used for the roofing. Inside the building is pretty interesting. I take more pictures here, wishing I had a DSLR instead of a film one. Hope these all turn out good. I also really wish I had a fisheye lens or a wide angle to get more of what I see.
I love making up stories.
Maybe I'll get a sketch up later.
