Drew these over the weekend.

Inspired by Craola, of course. I really want to get his book that just came out.

I just found Aaron Horkey's work, so amazingly one of my first drawings takes almost the exact subject matter from his work.

next post planned for thursday
hope your fall is starting off better than mine, enjoy

Just wanted to share this with you guys, An Interview with Aaron Horkey- Part Two http://www.hifructose.com/the-blog/930-an-interview-with-aaron-horkey-part-two.html I thought it was really interesting and would love to do something like that.

This update is going to be a little depressing; it will have no picture. D: I KNOW! It isn't my fault though. I even went back to the library to scan some this evening. As I walked in all the lights went out and a worker came up to me. "Dude the library closed 5 minutes ago." he said. WTF! What library closes at 6p.m. on a weekend! Although there is good news. The good news is that I have been drawing more, writing some short stories (or at least working on one), and doing a bunch of design homework (by that I mean doing a little here a little there on two projects). Hopefully I will get another post up this weekend and hopefully it will have a picture.

Until then have a great weekend,
Kyle

Thinking about clouds animals and came up with this.

I honestly don't know if anyone reads this, so if you do or you just happen to come across it and like a picture just leave a comment or something.

I read The Wizard of Oz Marvel comic book today that is illustrated by Skottie Young. I just have to say that he is pretty freakin amazing. If I could draw comics or cartoon characters that is what I would strive for, to be like Skottie Young. Alas, I can not. Instead, I think I will start writing some stories or at least ideas that come into my head through out the day. They might help me come up with more original characters or scenes for drawings.

I haven't scanned a picture for today because it's only 12:36 in the morning so I will make sure to do that later, or I might end up writing a story for you guys that I come up with during the day.

While reading The Wizard of Oz and some of the stories in the article about Craola I realized that both stories approached the story as a child would. Without trying to make everything fit into the way the "real world" works. The characters took things literally and stories were built on thoughts we all have thought about such as toys coming to life, or the stories that cloud animals tell us (the rhino with an octopus body swam through the ocean of clouds as the bear with a tiger head 'Kalidahs from The Wizard of Oz' breathed fire setting the forrest ablaze).

Ps I really like music

So here is a drawing I did after writing this. It's a copy of Skottie Young's Kalidah from The Wizard of Oz, just to do a study of it.

Not much to say today.
sketch of a squirrel I saw this morning, focused on it's head shape and eye.

Sunday, September 19, 2010

I told you. I told you I wouldn't post any pictures over the weekend. I was right. As the weekend ends I have this gapping feeling that I accomplished nothing at all. That is probably because I didn't. I should have done more homework; I should have done something other than Halo. I'm reading the latest issue of Juxtapoz, specifically the article on Greg "Craola" Simkins. It makes me want to draw so much, but at the same time I know that none of my drawings will look as good as those that I look at.

I sit and read about artists that have filled hundreds of sketchbooks where I can hardly say I have filled two, and I can hardly even start the one that I bought for the Sketchbook Project. I read stories that flow from the minds of others, where mine struggles to painstakingly come up with the few sentences for this blog.

I sketched a little while typing this so hopefully I'll remember to scan them and upload them tomorrow.

Until then enjoy yourselves,
Kyle

Ps I know this isn't a drawing but I made this today for a project

Thursday, September 16, 2010

Well, I don't have a new sketch for today but I figured I could tell you some good news! I found my sketchbook project sketchbook! Isn't that exciting!? I need to start drawing in it more I have like 4 months to finish it and get it shipped off.

In other good news, Halo Reach is amazing! I messed around in forge world yesterday and ended up building a pretty awesome map in 4 hours and I didn't even realize that much time had past. My friends and I are having a LAN party tomorrow so I'm not sure if I'll get an update posted or not, we'll see. I am sure that one of my friends will draw something in one of my sketchbooks through out the course of 12 hours. Bring on the Mt. Dew...

Halo: Reach. That is all that is needed to be said to explain why there was no picture yesterday. Now that I have played it for about 7 hours since I got it I will try to make time to post something today.

Inspired by Craola just like a lot of my other stuff.

Sorry I didn't post anything over the weekend. I know all of you are just on the edge of your seats waiting for my latest drawing (sarcasm). I had to make sure to get all my homework done and start studying for a test I have tomorrow morning so that I would be ready to go get Halo: Reach tonight at midnight! Although, I promise that I will try to post one later while I study. Oh and I have sad news... I believe that I have lost my sketchbook project sketchbook D: I think I left it in the library after scanning pictures on friday. I know, it is horrible...

Here is an amazing doodle from my boredom in chemistry!!!

So I fail at this blogging everyday thing, or at least remembering to post a picture with it, or to remember to do it later after I forget the first time. Today, though, I will make it up to you with multiple sketches! Isn't that exciting! Also, I rescanned a lot of my sketches with the scanner at the school library, they look auh-mazing now.

I'm sitting in the library working on another project, reading for bible study, trying to study Classical Mythology and Psychology all at the same time. I have to scan some pictures for this project so next time I go over there to scan a picture I'll scan my one of my drawings to post up.

NEVER MIND! Somehow I got so wrapped up in my work that I forgot to scan it. So I guess once I get home I'll scan one on my less than awesome scanner.

Enjoy the rest of your night.

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

I don't know if I'll get to post a picture today. I have to finish a project, go to bible study, do other homework, read, and a bunch of other stuff! Stressful! It wont be to bad though just some what time consuming. I'll try to get to the library tomorrow to scan a picture for tomorrow, because the library has way better scanners than I do. Hopefully, my pictures will be more clean and look more like drawings next time I post.

Thanks for reading, or not,

Kyle

A newer drawing. I did this one during Des 202,
instead of working on my project. I should probably be working on that now... I'll get on that.

Talk to you later
Kyle

Sunday, September 5, 2010

I guess what I have decided to do with this is post one drawing a week, at the least. I will try and post more like 2 or 3 or maybe even one a day, but my goal is, at least, one a week. Well this is an older one but it's a drawing so... yeah...

My best friends have started blogging now. One writes about his views on life, God, coffee, and the other things he finds important. My other friend is a photographer. He has decided that he will take a photograph a day and write about it on his blog. He is doing it to get better at composing, and just better at photography. That is kind of what I want to do but I'm not a photographer and I don't think I could come up with an original sketch everyday, or at least not a good one. Maybe I need to do that anyway, maybe even if it's just a scribble it will help me get somewhat better.

On another note, REACH comes out in 9 days!!! I cannot wait to play it. I can't even describe how excited I am.
